Orientation Leaders
Thirty-three University of New Orleans students have been selected to serve as 2010 Orientation Leaders and are working to introduce new UNO students to campus life during spring and summer orientation sessions.
Valeria Aguerri, a freshman marketing/management major, is a member of the Latin American Students Association and the College of Business Executive Council. A 2007 graduate of Colegia Centro America, she is a daughter of Alexandra Pereira and Juan Carlos Aguerri Chamorro of Nicaragua.
Lauren Boudreaux, a senior film major, is president of the UNO Greens and outgoing secretary of the UNO Filmmakers. A graduate of Design and Architecture High School in Miami, Florida, she is the daughter of Vera Bibb of New Orleans.
Calvin Captville, a junior mechanical engineering major, is active in the UNO Progressive Black Student Union and the National Society of Black Engineers and has served on Student Government. A graduate of Central High School, he is the son of Carol Guidry of Baton Rouge.
Renato Chamorro, a senior marketing and business administration major, is involved in the Latin American Students Association (LASA) and the College of Business Executive Council (CBEC). A 2006 graduate of Escuela Internacional Sampedrana, he is the son of Sandra Ramirez and Renato Chamorro of San Pedro Sula, Honduras.
Marvin Crayton Jr., a sophomore psychology major, is a member of the Student Activities Council. A 2008 graduate of St. Augustine High School, he is the son of Dannelle and Marvin Crayton Sr. of New Orleans.
Claire Cummings, a sophomore theater major, is a member of Alpha Xi Delta sorority. A 2008 graduate of East Jefferson High School, she is the daughter of Leslie Fabacher and Timothy Cummings of Metairie.
Katie Donsbach, a freshman psychology major, is a member of the Student Activities Council. A 2009 graduate of East Jefferson High School, she is the daughter and stepdaughter of Angie and Dominic Maone of Metairie and Michael Donsbach of Kenner.
Amber Fairbanks, a sophomore majoring in interdisciplinary studies, is a member of FDR Improv. A 2008 graduate of West Monroe High School, she is the daughter of Tegwin and John Fairbanks of West Monroe.
Amber Fisher, a sophomore electrical engineering major, is a member of the National Society of Black Engineers and the Progressive Black Student Union. A 2008 graduate of Scotlandville Magnet High School, she is the daughter of Cynthia Leatherman of Baton Rouge and the niece of Sherry Elloie of Ventress.
Marcus Flenoir, a sophomore fine arts major, is a member of the Progressive Black Student Union. A 2008 graduate of Redemptorist High School, he is the son and stepson of Jeanine and Walter Ennis and Keith Flenoir of Los Angeles.
Nicholas "Nick" Fuselier, a senior interdisciplinary studies major concentrating in social justice, is vice president of the Student Activities Council and a member of the Diversity Cabinet and the Student Advisory Board for Student Persistence and Recovery Initiatives (SPRI). A 2006 graduate of Eunice High School, he is the son of Michele and Michael Fuselier of Eunice.
Maegan Hebert, a freshman biology/pre-medicine major, grew up in Kentwood and is a 2009 graduate of Bowling Green School in Franklinton. She is the daughter of Angel and Glenn Hebert of Chalmette.
William "Will" Hery, a freshman psychology major, is a member of the flag football team and a volunteer at Center of Jesus the Lord Church. A 2009 graduate of Holy Cross School, he is the son of Nanette and Kim Hery of Arabi.
Brett Hornsby, a senior majoring in interdisciplinary studies with a concentration in business and urban policy, is a member of the Omicron Delta Kappa Leadership Fraternity, president and founder of the UNO Blue Krewe, Student Government, and scholastic chairman of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity. A 2005 graduate of Jesuit High School, he is the son of Sandra Hornsby of Gretna and Irby Hornsby of Baton Rouge.
Dawn Jefferson, a sophomore film major, is a member of the Student Activities Council (SAC) and a resident assistant in Pontchartrain Hall. A 2008 graduate of Cabrini High School, she is the daughter of Monique Leon and Mose Jefferson, both of New Orleans.
Amonie Johnson, a senior biology/pre-medicine major, is an Orientation Leader coordinator and a Student Government senator representing the College of Sciences. A graduate of Durfee High School in Fall River, Mass., she is the daughter of Angela and Fred Johnson of Algiers.
Fred Johnson, IV, a senior biology/pre-medicine major, is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity and the UNO Progressive Black Student Union and is a Student Government senator representing the College of Sciences. A graduate of Durfee High School in Fall River, Mass., he is the son of Angela and Fred Johnson of Algiers.
Sasha Johnson, a senior psychology major, is a member of Psi Chi, the international psychology honor society, and AKA. A 2006 graduate of Durfee High School in Fall River, Mass., she is the daughter of Angela and Fred Johnson of Algiers.
Nurab Khadka, a freshman accounting major, is a member of the Honors Council, the Nepalese Student Organization, and International Student Organization and is a Student Government senator representing the College of Business Administration. A 2008 graduate of V.S. Niketan Higher Secondary School, he is the son of Rabi Khadka of Bhaktapur, Nepal.
Leticia Lam, a sophomore electrical engineer, is a graduate of the Elvel School and the daughter of Eva and Hai Lam of Tegucigalpa, Honduras.
Brooke Larsen, a senior history major, is a member of the UNO Honors Council, FDR Improv and Phi Alpha Theta. A 2006 graduate of Baton Rouge Magnet High School, she is the daughter of Gigi Larsen of Covington and Niels Larsen of New Orleans.
Amanda McGilvray, a freshman liberal arts major, is a member of the Student Activities Council. A 2009 graduate of Zachary High School, she is the daughter of Mona Kay Fraering of Lake Charles and John McGilvray of Forest Hill and the stepdaughter of Donna Gibbs McGilvray of Metairie and Michael Fraering of Bay St. Louis, Mississippi.
Taurean Mingo, a junior film, theatre and communication arts major, is active in the UNO Progressive Black Student Union and Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity and is a resident assistant in Pontchartrain Hall. A 2005 graduate of Redeemer-Seton High School, he is the son of Marcia Mingo of San Antonio, Texas, and Willie Mingo of New Orleans and the older brother of Marquez and Malik Mingo of San Antonio.
Adley Murphy-Mejia is a freshman majoring in planning and urban studies. A 2009 graduate of Grace King High School, she is the daughter of Judy Murphy of New Orleans and Mario Mejia of La Lima, Honduras.
Elise Murphy-Mejia, a senior elementary education major, is a member of the UNO Ambassadors, Student Government and Kappa Delta Epsilon sorority. A 2006 graduate of Ben Franklin High School, she is the daughter of Judy Murphy of New Orleans and Mario Mejia of La Lima, Honduras.
Nkediniruka "Nikki" Obiako, a freshman business major, is involved with the Campus Crusade for Christ. She is the daughter of Jane and Emmanuel Obiako of Ora-eri, Nigeria.
B. Pinithi Perera, a junior biological sciences major, is a member of the International Student Organization, the UNO Honors Council and the Golden Key International Honour Society. A 2009 graduate of Delgado Community College and a graduate of Sirimoavo Bandaranaike Vidyalaya (Sri Lanka) and Delgado Community College. She is the daughter of Arunandika and Prashanthi Perera of Sri Lanka.
Kevin Potter Jr., is a junior majoring in urban planning and regional studies with concentrations in urban design and transportation and minors in photography and Spanish. He is a member of the UNO Leadership Cabinet, the Diversity Cabinet, Crescent City Shapers planning organization, and the Action Coalition for Racial, Society & Environmental Justice. He studied in Rome in 2008 with the UNO Study Abroad Program. A graduate of Holy Cross School, he is the son of Kay and Kevin Potter of Chalmette.
Gelana Dee Stovall, a sophomore majoring in interdisciplinary studies, is a member of the Student Activities Council, the College of Business Executive Council and Hospitality Education and Networking Association (HENA). A graduate of Hahnville High School, she is the daughter and stepdaughter of Peggy Stovall Morgan and Maurice Morgan of Luling.
Laura Siu, a freshman majoring in biology, is a member of the International Student Organization, Tri Beta biology honor society, Alpha Epsilon Delta service sorority, and is Student Government senator representing the College of Sciences. A 2009 graduate of Escuela Internacional Sampredrana, she is the daughter of Suyapa Eng and Ramon Siu of San Pedro Sula, Honduras.
Whitney Teachworth, a senior majoring in business management, is vice president of the College of Business Executive Council (CBEC). A graduate of St. Mary's Dominican High School, she is the daughter of Cindy and Thomas Teachworth of New Orleans.
Ashley Williams, a junior Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism Administration major, is active in the Hospitality Education and Networking Association (HENA) and the National Society of Minorities in Hospitality (NSMH) and is a member of the Privateer Dance Team. A graduate of Mount Carmel Academy, she is the daughter of Kim and Richard Williams of Slidell.
Christopher Williams, a freshman majoring in biological sciences, is a member of the UNO Pep Band and volunteers with the Boys and Girls Club. A 2009 graduate of West Jefferson High School, he is the son of Veronica and Carl Lacoste of Gretna.
